Keni Thomas and Cornbread

How exciting for us!! We had an opportunity to go to a concert that was done by Keni Thomas at the Vietnam Traveling Wall which is held in Melbourne each year. What an awesome way to see him. What a way to pay tribute to the men and women that have served our country. I truly appreciate that he has continues to the USO tours.

We began listening to Keni Thomas when we were living in Columbus, Ga. He received radio play on the local stations when we were living there.

Meghan likes the fact that he is from Columbus, Ga since that is were she was born. Every now and then she will take a break from Hilary Duff and listen to his albums. Sorry Keni in spite of your hometown advantage, Hilary is still first for Meghan.

If you have not been able to visit the Wall, you have missed an emotionally moving experience. We are very fortunate that the wall visit Melbourne every year. You cannot help but be effected by the experience unless you are comlpletely devoid of emotion.

The Science Fair

Meghan has her presentation to give on her science project at the county science fair on Wednesday. The have been prepping the kids for this for a couple of weeks. She stayed after school last Monday for an hour. The had all the kids together Friday and gave them further info. Her presentation will be done between 10:40 am and 11:15 am. She will be with a science fair official and a judge. She is not allowed to have a parent or teacher in with her.

Now during Spring Break, Meghan and I picked out her outfit for this event. Apparently we wasted our time since we picked out a really cute suit type outfit which is a skirt and blazer. The girls were told no skirts or dresses and all the children were told no tank tops(would someone actually allow their child to attend the science fair in a tank top?). They were told to dress like a scientist. I find that to be very ambiguous. To dress like a scientist, I am picturing a white lab coat which we do not have around here. So what exactly am I suppose to make sure this child has available to wear on Wednesday.

We will hope that this is a good experience for Meghan. While I do not really expect her to win I hope that she does well to encourage her to strive for a repeat performance with next years science project. It would be nice to see some recognition for all the effort that she puts toward her project.

The "CRAZE"

As most of you with kids have already learned, the greatest fade going for many kids right now are Webkinz. The stuff animals are adorable and you get to interact with the your toy online. Well, Meghan has been completely bitten by the bug. If you are a family member that has yet to receive one of these delightful creatures as a gift, do not worry your time is probably coming. I wish I could say that Meghan is the only member of the family to be bitten by the bug, but alas that would not be completely true. Alan and I stayed up one night playing games under Meghan's user id until 2:30 am. Yes folks that is until 2:30 in the morning after both if us having been up early that particular day. I am "addicted" to Booger Gets an A, Quizzy's Word Challenge and Quizzy's Corner which chalk full trivia type questions.

Meghan is currently around 23 of these animals although she has only registered three so far online. One of the current additions is the Panda which will be May Pet of the Month. When you register a pet the month that it is Pet of the Month, you receive all kinds of extra stuff. The Panda was put up as incentive for her to remember to smile all through the dance class. The deal was after she earned him should she fail to smile through most of the dance classes then mommy would adopt the Panda ( Meghan named her Garnet) for the week between dance classes. So each week, Garnet goes to dance class and sits on my lap hoping that her "mommy" smiles while she dances. Tonight's classes were the first test she has had since earning the Webkinz Panda right before spring break. Meghan did right by Garnet and smiled through most of the dance class.

In the meantime, remember that not posting regularly might be due to Webkinz world addiction. Time to satisfy the addition before I go to bed.

Where's The Beef???

This past week, Meghan and I went to Wendy's for lunch. Now, it has been a very long time since I have been to Wendy's. In fact it is probably well over a year. I have ordered the same thing at Wendy's since I was in high school (junior bacon cheeseburger), so I arrived knowing what I wanted and was pleasantly surprised that it was still at the .99 price I remembered. I had expected the price to have gone up like everything else has over the past few months. My pleasure lasted only until I sat down and unwrapped the sandwich. To my surprise given the establishments Where's the Beef commercials in the 80s, I found myself wondering where was the beef. I saw cheese and tomato, lettuce and even the mayo, but I had to search for the beef. The burger patty that now comes on this .99 wonder is very flat and thin like a small square sheet of paper. My next thought on viewing this very pathetic excuse for a burger was when did Krystal and Wendy's merge. Of course it has been close to 6 years since I have been to a Krystal but I think their burger while small were actually thicker and everything else on the burger was proportioned to that size.

My father in law would probably tell me that it was all to be expected from a place that sells square burgers. After much thought and consideration, I finally think he has been on to something all these years.

It's Two in a Row

Meghan has managed to pull off straight As on the most recent report card that she received. She is so very proud. She ha worked very hard to get there and to now to have stayed there for two grading periods is terrific. The school year is winding down and she will be on spring break is next week. The last month or so will be very busy for her. We still have the county science fair to go which is soon. They began helping the students prep yesterday for the judges. After that we begin the concerts that she has beginning May 11 with the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra. This is closely followed by the school concert which is scheduled around the 20th. The final event is her dance recital on June 7th.
